AMPERE data files are easily ingested into IDL for analysis and plotting with the IDL Reader/Plotter package. AMPERE data can also be made compatible for use with Space Physics Environment Data Analysis Software (SPEDAS) functions once read into the IDL session.
Additional IDL packages for use with AMPERE data are the Geopack DLM and AACGM DLM interfaces.
The Reader/Plotter package contains:

The IDL Geopack DLM is a Dynamic Link Module (DLM) for the Interactive Data Language (IDL) by Harris Geospatial Solutions developled by H. Korth. The purpose of this library is to provide easy access to the GEOPACK Fortran library by N. A. Tsyganenko and related routines. H. Korth and the AMPERE team do not claim any rights to those routines. The intellectual assets of H. Korth are in the interface itself. The interface allows calling of the Geopack functions, which are commonly used in space physics, from the IDL command line without any knowledge of Fortran or C. All commands behave like native IDL procedures.
Acknowledgements: Haje Korth thanks Kolya Tsyganenko for his Geopack and external magnetic field model routines. Support for improvement and maintenance of this utility was provided in part by NASA THEMIS and Van Allen Probes projects and grant NNX15AF53G, and by the National Science Foundation (NSF) under grants ATM-0539024, ATM-0739864, and ATM-0951420. Any opinions, findings, and conclusions or recommendations expressed in this material are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of NASA and/or NSF.

Beta versions of the IDL Geopack DLM may be downloaded here.
Another handy DLM for converting between geographic and altitude-adjusted corrected geomagnetic (AACGM) coordinates.
**Note, the following code package and description was developed prior to the transition to AMPERE-NEXT. It is compatible for use with AMPERE Block-1 data (date range of 2010 – 2017).
IDL AACGM DLM is a Dynamic Link Module (DLM) for the Interactive Data Language (IDL) by Research Systems, Inc. The purpose of this library is to provide easy access to the AACGM library by R. J. Barnes, which is based on algorithms by K. Baker and S. Wing. H. Korth and the AMPERE team do not claim any rights to those routines, and the only intellectual assets are in the interface itself. The interface allows calling of the AACGM functions from the IDL command line without any knowledge of the C language. All commands behave like native IDL procedures and are faster than the native IDL implementation of the library. Please send any comments or bug reports to haje.korth@jhuapl.edu.
Download IDL AACGM DLM for Windows v5.1 (IDL >6.4) (includes Year 2010 coefficients)
Software utilizing AACGM v2, with coefficients up to the year 2025, is available from S. Shepherd here, and described in Shepherd (2014).
